Saskatoon Health Region is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of Saskatchewan’s top 20 employers for 2011. This special designation recognizes Saskatchewan employers who are leaders in offering exceptional places to work. Saskatoon Health Region is the only health-care organization included in this year’s list.

Employers are evaluated and selected based on eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. In addition employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

Saskatoon Health Region is home to many exciting and innovative initiatives that were highlighted in this year’s application. Some of these initiatives include sustainability, healthy workplace, representative workforce, onboarding and mentorship, leadership and management succession program, as well as the extensive volunteer work completed by Health Region employees.

The jobless rate in Canada is 7.6 per cent, however the rate among professionals and most trades is below four per cent, with the jobless rate for nurses below two percent. These numbers mean Saskatoon Health Region needs to be increasingly progressive to attract and retain employees. The Saskatchewan’s Top 20 Employers designation is one more way of letting potential recruits know that the Health Region is an employer of choice.
