Connie Camponi is all smiles as she wheels the Nutrition-on-the-Go cart down the halls of Royal University Hospital.

The traveling food cart provides a variety of yummy lunch and snack choices to the operating room, emergency room, intensive care unit waiting rooms and the Saskatoon Cancer Centre. She is the friendly and popular provider of this valuable service. “The doctors and other staff, their schedules are so scattered that to have her here is a blessing, really,” says Maryanne Pawlush, a porter in the operating room. “We’re always happy to see her.”

Camponi loves her job and knows the individuals she serves appreciate the service. “I just think there’s not enough positive reports about the hospital and how hard people work,” she says. “This is one way to show them that we understand and we want to make it easier for them to do their jobs.” As one licensed practical nurse comes to the cart, Camponi is ready with her dessert, a usual for this person – a little pick-me-up during the day. They joke about it for a few moments and then it’s back to work.

“The cart provides food and beverages for staff, patients and families who cannot always get away from their unit for a meal or snack.” says Shelley Dobrowolsky, Manager of Retail Food Services. “It’s a unique role for Connie, and she does a great job of customer service.”

“Nutrition on-the-Go” is available weekdays at RUH from 11:00a.m. to 12:45p.m.
