Anyone who has ever attended a meeting or training course in the St. Paul’s Hospital Auditorium will recall a dark room, 1970s décor and hard, uncomfortable chairs.

On March 12, the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation happily re-opened a renovated and technologically-equipped auditorium named Pylypchuk Hall. The auditorium is now bright and modern, with comfortable seating, Telehealth capabilities and a large entryway mural that tells the story of this important teaching hospital.

Pylypchuk Hall is the generous gift of Dr. George and Shelda Pylypchuk, both long-time care providers in Saskatoon Health Region.

“The Pylypchuks have a long history of commitment to health-care excellence and education at St. Paul’s Hospital,” says Bruce Acton, CEO of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. “We were so pleased when they came to us not only with financial support, but also with the idea to generate more educational opportunities through a complete overhaul of the auditorium.”

The state-of-the-art facility also uses two-way video-conferencing via Telehealth Saskatchewan to share medical expertise, extend education and provide support regardless of distance. The Telehealth audio-visual equipment was generously funded by Areva Resources Canada and Areva Foundation in their continued support of Renal Telehealth and Chronic Renal Insufficiency Outreach Programs at St. Paul’s Hospital.

“An integral aspect of quality health care is a commitment to ongoing education,” says Dr. Pylypchuk. “I’m very happy that St. Paul’s Hospital now has a brightly-lit, comfortable place where people can come together to learn and share.”
