Better Every Day – Our Stories
Teams of Saskatoon Health Region employees and physicians are working hard to make the patient experience better every day.

We’ve made some big improvements to the way patients receive meals. Previously, patients were waiting up to 48 hours to receive their selected food menu choices during their hospital stay. Food trays were delivered to patients who were discharged and as a result, the food was wasted. Now, thanks to some great ideas from Food & Nutrition employees and others on the RPIW #87 team, increasingly more patients are making their preferred menu selection on the day of admission. Better communication between units, along with standard work, means patients are happier and significantly less food is wasted.

A Rapid Process Improvement Workshop, or RPIW, is a week-long event bringing together patients, employees and clinicians to focus on solving one problem. RPIWs are just one improvement tool in our lean-based Saskatchewan Health Care Management System.
