Volunteers, donors, and families from southern Saskatchewan all pulled together to raise over half a million dollars for Saskatchewan’s new children’s and maternal hospital last week.

Listeners tuning into the 12th Annual Children’s Hospital Radiothon in Regina November 5-6 – southern Saskatchewan’s largest fundraiser for the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan –  set a new record by raising a total of $540,727.

The final tally was announced during the final hour by on-air personalities from 620 CKRM, MY92.1, and 104.9 The Wolf. It brings the overall Radiothon total to more than $3.4 million since the event began.

“This total represents a great celebration in honour of the children and families of Saskatchewan,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. “The fact that we are able to raise such an incredible amount in only two short days is a true testament to the generosity of southern Saskatchewan. Thank you to everyone who donated. This children’s hospital is being built for all of Saskatchewan by the very people that call this amazing province home.”

CN matched all donations up to $150,000, making it the largest match on record for the Children’s Hospital Radiothon in Regina.

“CN has helped to unite the people of Saskatchewan by supporting our cause and encouraging others to donate, raise funds, and host their own events through their incredible CN Miracle Match program,” said Boback-Lane.

“The importance of this event is growing now that construction has officially begun,” said Kevin Punshon of CIBC Wood Gundy, the presenting sponsor for the event again this year. “We all need to do our part to provide the children of Saskatchewan with the care they require and deserve both now and in the future.”

Ground was broken for the construction of the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan in September. Funds raised by the radiothon will support the hospital, and will also be used to purchase a new pediatric echocardiography machine.

Pediatric echocardiography machines provide high-quality images of cardiac defects in babies, allowing them to avoid invasive procedures like cardiac catheterizations and additional tests for which general anesthesia is required. The machine will especially help babies born with congenital cardiac defects in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and older children in the Pediatric ICU without disturbing the procedures already booked in the outpatient clinic.

Harvard Broadcasting media partners for the marathon were 620 CKRM, MY92.1, and 104.9 The Wolf.

Other sponsors for the event included Conexus, K + S Potash, Kelturn Drywall, Potash Corp, Viterra, Capital Auto, SaskTel, Information Services Corporation, SaskMilk, Partner Technologies.

Volunteers, donors, and families from southern Saskatchewan continue to show commitment and support as we forge ahead building the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan.
