With the preparation underway for the upcoming 90 Days of Action: Safer Every Day work, safety is the hot topic around Saskatoon Health Region.

This is why the Region needs input from its physicians and employees about where safety improvements need to be made.

The Canadian Patient Safety Culture Survey opened August 23 and closes September 30, 2015. “We are using Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum program to guide our quality improvement efforts. This involves assessing and improving the services we provide based on Accreditation Canada’s standards,” says Marcellinus Anyanwu, the Region’s Accreditation Specialist. “The Patient Safety Culture Survey is an important part of this process. It is an online survey that asks for your opinions on different aspects of your work environment. The results help us identify areas that may need to be improved.”

The results of the survey could also go a long way in helping the Safer Every Day teams with some of their work. “One of our sources of data is from the Patient Safety Culture Survey from three years ago,” says Petrina McGrath, Team Co-Lead for the 90 Days of Action: Safer Every Day work. “It’s important to the work going forward that we have some fresh data and no one understands safety in their workplace better than our physicians and employees.”

The survey itself takes about 15 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. The responses are sent directly to Accreditation Canada and the Region receives a summary of the results.
