Peer immunizers like Registered Nurse Jason Shand make it easy for emergency department (ED) staff to get immunized. Shand is among six peer immunizers in the ED at Royal University Hospital.

Jason Shand, emergency services nurse clinician and peer immunizer at Royal University Hospital (RUH), gives Dr. Ted Ledding the influenza vaccine while the doctor writes a consult for a patient.

“The emergency department is very busy, so it’s convenient for everyone when we’re able to bring immunizations right to the staff. It takes just a few minutes, allowing staff to get back to work right away and to use their breaks to rest instead of going off site to a clinic,” says Shand.
